Here are a few reminders of Do's and Dont's when it comes to jewellery.

Common sense .. If you are not sure that doing something to or whilst wearing your jewellery will be good for it then don't do it

Jewellery care in general

Jewellery is made to be worn, but be careful with it, as although all care has been taken in it’s creation it is fairly delicate… and can be of untold danger to children

Don't give it to the baby/toddler to play with,it is not a toy, don't use it for any purposes it is not intended for  ..and don't wear it in the shower or swimming pool (the colour of the cotton and leather cords can run when wet and any cracking/chips in the plating of silver/gold plated items could start to show signs of deterioration from any exposed base metal)
also for safety reasons it is best taken off at the gym

Tibetan and Sterling silver benefits from a quick light polish with a silver cloth every now and then (as will any silver plated item ) but be careful not to get any chemicals on gem stones

Copper jewellery can, and will usually season in time to a darker colour even when trated with anti tarnish coatings. With wear it can leave ‘copper’ or greyish green residue where it contacts the skin.. this is the quite normal reaction of copper to your natural skin secretions and the natural oxydisation process of copper, it is thought to be part of the way the health benefits of wearing copper are absorbed..

Please don’t worry the residue washes off the skin with a little soap and water and the copper can be cleaned with either a proprietry brand copper cleaner (following manufacturers instructions) or some people suggest a little vinegar/lemon juice well diluted with water applied on a cotton wool pad, rinsed thoroughly and dried prior to buffing with a soft cloth..or may be you have a different method that you would like to share with others, if so please contact me.

Which ever method you prefer to use when cleaning your jewellery please take care with the cleaning product near any gem stones and their settings
Do Polish gemstones with a soft cloth, but NEVER use detergents, bleaches or other cleaning products on them, especially the more delicate stones like Amber and Turquoise. Try to avoid spraying perfume, hairspray or deodorants on or near the stones… the same goes for any polymer beads

The artisan beads I use are annealed for strength and durability, but please remember; they are still glass and can break or crack if you drop them on a hard surface

Treat your jewellery with care and it will last so much longer and give you so much more pleasure in the years to come
